All Uçalım have clocks between their shoulderblades, counting down the time until they die. If the clock strikes twelve, it means an Uçalım's life has ended. There are different ways of influencing the clock hands, like the Inci's healing magic and the Devrim's dark sorcery. Any damage taken to the soul clock will also damage the Uçalım's mind and can even kill them in case the damage is too severe or remains untreated for too long.

NOTE: Belig and Taarih have special kinds of soulclocks, different from the other families. Check out their family sheet for more information!

ABOUT THE SOUL CLOCK TRAITS
  • A Soul Clock has a rare “custom shape” when the clock-face has a different form than a perfect circle.

  • If it has any ornaments on it that change the clock’s form, but not the clock-face’s form, it has legendary “ornaments”.

Note: The clasp at the top does not count as a trait! It simply opens the clock.

CLOCK HANDS

  • Simple Clock Hand: The clock hand is a simple, straight line in any material or color

  • Custom Shape Clock Hand: The clock hand can have any shape, material, or color. It’s allowed to be broad or thin, crooked, bent or straight, but no decorative swirls and elements that change its silhouette are allowed.

  • Cycle Indicator: A second clock hand that goes around the clock once each cycle (one “year” in Cihan, lasting about 3 human years). Can only be as elaborate as the main clock hand.

  • Ornamented Clock Hand: The clock hand can have any shape, any decoration, any material and color

CLOCK MATERIALS

In general, using lacquers to explain the change of the natural colors of the Clocks is not allowed.

  • Wood Clocks must resemble wood; Browns, Reds, Beiges and Blacks are typical wood colors.

  • Metal Clocks can have any color (except the gold-range), but must have a metallic sheen to them.

  • Gold/Silver Clocks must resemble gold/silver; Yellow gold, Rose gold, White gold, and even sheer Green gold are typical Gold colors. Also, the clocks must have a metallic sheen to them.

  • Diamond Clocks can have any color, as long as there is no metallic sheen.

ABOUT SOULNAMES

Every Uçalım has three names:

  • The name of the bird they represent

  • Their normal name

  • Their soul name

The last one is the name that they will be called once they go to heaven (or hell, if they fucked up). An Uçalım's soul name is between 4 and 6 syllables long (rarely 3 or more than 6), and is usually kept secret. It's not rare that only the Uçalım themselves (and their mothers, obviously) know their soul names. Uçalım get their soulnames from their parents or guardians. However, the legends say that angels guide those guardians, so the Uçalım will get a Soulname fit for an angel.

Rarely, the name is also used along couples that are very close to each other, but using those names in public will give you the same reaction as if you're noisily making out, so just don't. Calling an Uçalım who you're not close to by his soul name is considered one of the rudest and most intrusive things you can do, like forcibly grabbing or punching them.

THE POWER OF SOULNAMES

The clocks are never opened, first, because it's a huge emotional burden to everyone who might see it, and second, because one of their most valuable asset is engraved in the cover: the Uçalım's Soul Name, the name which they will be called by when they die and go to heaven. Opening someone else's Soul Clock without permission is considered one of the worst delicts possible, and is usually prosecuted harshly, the punishment depending on which family the Uçalım is part of.

The reason why the Soul Names have developed such a stigma around themselves, is that Uçalıms can be cursed with that name by witches. This is why the fact that it must never be opened is engraved in little Uçalım's brains from a very young age.

However, when a soulname is spoken out, there is a possibility of a short emotional connection between the two Uçalım involved. This connection can be strong enough to actually calm an Uçalım down if it’s spoken out in goodwill, or actually damage their mental state if it is said with true hatred. Many couples tend to use their soulnames around each other despite the risk, since it lets the other feel their own feelings first hand; A short confession of love for each time the name is said, so to speak. This is only done in private, though, since it can be a great danger to the partner if their soulname is spoken out loudly in public. Even if the soulname is not spoken out, it can still happen at times when one of the two Uçalım gets hurt or is in great emotional turmoil, the other one might actually feel that distress. This is a rare occurrence however, and usually only happens between Uçalım with a strong emotional connection.

CIHANGIR AND ÇAÄžRI

A tainted Uçalım's Soul Clock shows what happens when you make a pact with a demon.
ÇaÄŸri and Cihangir both have black veins surrounding their Soul Clocks, but they are easy to distinguish.
While a Cihangirs Soul Clock is entirely taken over by their Demon, dissolving them into a black mass that only keeps it's shape, the Soul Clock of a ÇaÄŸri still shows what it had looked like before the pact was made. They are covered in deep scratches, which ooze out a black resin like substance.

Since the Cihangirs Soul Clocks look very different to a normal Uçalıms, there are fewer traits that can still be used.

Those Traits are:

  • Oval Soul Clock

  • Custom Shaped Soul Clock

  • Ornamented Soul Clock

  • Black Resin or Black Shadows flowing out of the Soul Clock

A Cihangirs Soul Name gets taken by the demon and will be replaced by the demons name, sealing the pact that they will follow them to hell after they die. The demon name works similar to a normal soul name and can - from then on - be used to place new curses on the Uçalım. The Soul Clock can't be opened anymore, all existing soul bonds (like marriage) will be seperated and already existing curses can no longer be revoked.
